Carnegie Birthplace Museum and Memorial Hall

The original cottage where Andrew Carnegie was born, with a museum and visitor centre attached. The museum tells the extraordinary rags to riches story of Andrew Carnegie. The son of a loom worker, Carnegie emigrated to the USA where he founded the United States Steel Corporation, which by 1901 was worth $400 million. Carnegie, however never forgot his roots and distributed his wealth for the benefit of humanity, building libraries and schools across America. To his native Dunfermline, Carnegie gifted Pittencrieff Park, a library, school, public baths and Dunfermline's own Carnegie Hall.
